Get Ready To Reduce Waste In Your Home With #SCJZeroWaste

As a family of five there’s the potential to incur a lot waste in our household.

That’s why I’m super excited to be participating in the SC Johnson Zero Waste Challenge (#SCJZeroWaste) over the next month. I will be challenging your family to use less waste as well! This should be fun (although you KNOW how competitive I am).

SC Johnson is a family company dedicated to innovative, high-quality products, excellence in the workplace and a long-term commitment to the environment and the communities in which it operates. It markets such well-known brands as GLADE®, KIWI®, OFF!®, PLEDGE®, RAID®, SCRUBBING BUBBLES®, SHOUT®, WINDEX® and ZIPLOC® in the U.S. and beyond.

We use numerous SC Johnson products in our house already especially Ziploc bags.

However, we want to try and have a litterless home and need to be more mindful of using some of SC Johnson’s reusable products.

Every day I try to take reusable containers for my lunch and the rest of our family aims to do the same.

We also have a built in recycling bin right beside our garbage bin in our kitchen. Our preschool son knows the difference between the two and is happy to share when he’s recycled something.

SC Johnson strongly believes that small changes in your home and community can make a big difference, and is dedicated to helping Canadians make those changes.

We minimize waste by buying bulk items once in a while and using our own containers; e.g. Coconut oil, rice, brown sugar, pasta.  We achieve less waste by than buying small containers less frequently.

For lunches, there are many convenience pack type items like applesauce that we now buy in a large jar format and place in a reusable container each day.

SC Johnson Canada is committed to reducing waste and recycling, and has not sent any waste to landfills since January 2013.  The facility intends to continue this trend well into the future.

When we go grocery shopping each week, we use the reusable shopping bags that we keep in the trunk of our car.

So, as you can see my family is already doing many things to reduce our waste, but outside of our routine, we need to find more ways! The challenge will be to post new ways of reducing waste in our household. Perhaps YOU are already doing something that I’m not? Share, and let’s be accountable to each other.

I’m looking forward to it!

What changes will you be making at home and at work to create less waste?

  1. Hey!

    Its a very nice share.

Keeping the home clean is definitely easier to say than done for many persons whose all time belongs at the office. I must say to hire professional cleaning companies are really beneficial. They provide you different services which helps you to reduce the waste.

Waste management involves many methods to treat rubbish. The most popular and used methods are waste reduction, waste reuse and recycling.

Implementing one or all of these methods leads to many benefits both to you and the environment. They reduce the release of pollutants, save energy, reduce the demand of landfill space and reduce or prevent green house gas emissions.

    Keep doing good work.

    God Bless U!:)

  2. Zero-waste lifestyle seem really great to me as I am always looking for better ways to live my life in a more clean and eco-friendlier way. The biggest problem for me that I can’t understand how is it to get groceries and what kinds of containers to use for all the food. How can I by a package of beans, spaghetti or chips as this means that I have to throw away the package?
