Solo travel for self-care isn’t always planned – sometimes it’s unexpected money that lands in your account and you finally choose yourself. That’s exactly how my solo trip to West Kelowna happened, and it reminded me why, especially for women who constantly pour into everyone else, the need to prioritize solo travel and rest without guilt.
The Five-Minute Decision That Changed Everything

The decision wasn’t planned. I got a little extra money. True story – I had overpaid car insurance for 2 years! Instead of paying yet another bill, I made the choice to do something for me. The cheque was in my hands for all of five minutes, and I thought to myself, “I deserve a little getaway!” Not with anyone else in mind. Just me.
Within hours I booked a King suite at the Cove Lakeside Resort. No spreadsheet. No itinerary. Just a simple yes to myself.
Why West Kelowna Was Perfect for Solo Travel for Self-Care

I’ve been to Kelowna before, but never stayed on the west side. This time, I chose West Kelowna, and honestly, it felt like exactly where I was meant to land. The resort was peaceful and tucked away. Early mornings felt full of serenity. Mountains in the distance. Lake water just steps away. Time that moved at my pace.
What Slow Travel Actually Looks Like

I didn’t pack my days with activities or plan a bunch of outings, instead, I let things happen naturally.
Most mornings, I woke up slow.
Decaf coffee with collagen and creatine in hand, I’d sit on the balcony and eat my favorite breakfast: eggs.
Some days I’d walk the shoreline with no destination at all. I let the days flow without needing them to perform for me. That? In itself, felt amazing.
The Solo Dining Moment That Made It All Worth It

One of my favorite moments? Sitting on a patio at Frind Winery, solo, ordering exactly what I wanted, and not once feeling the urge to scroll or check in. Just me, a glass of wine, good food, and lake views. I didn’t need conversation. More importantly, I didn’t need company. I felt full.
Sharing the Journey (On My Terms)
This trip reminded me that solo travel for self-care doesn’t have to be big or performative—it just has to feel good to you. Even though this wasn’t a “content trip,” let’s be real – I’m still a content creator. So yes, I shared some moments from the trip, but with delay. Not for likes, comments, or anyone else’s approval. Just because it felt good to.
Choosing Yourself Doesn’t Require a Passport

Let me be real: Choosing yourself doesn’t have to look like a solo trip. It could be turning your phone off for a day. Saying no when you usually say yes. Letting yourself rest just because you’re tired. Doing nothing and being okay with it.
Whatever it looks like for you, don’t wait for permission. Don’t wait until you’re burnt out, by then, it may be too late. You’re allowed to take up space in your own life.
So yeah. This is what choosing myself looked like this time. And I’m going to keep doing it in whatever way I need to.
PS: If you’re thinking about booking your own solo trip – DO IT. West Kelowna treated me so well. I’ll be sharing more specifics about the accommodations and activities. You can catch more of the trip in my Solo Trip story highlights on Instagram (Part 1 and Part 2)
