IKEA-rumba Winnipeg! 5 days ’til the Grand Opening!

In 5 days, count ’em, 5, Winnipeg will experience the magic and wonder that is IKEA! No more begging friends to join in with ya on the shipping costs, no more gas money spent on shopping trips several hours away from home. We will actually be able to touch and feel the items we love, have a scrumptious meal in the massive restaurant and bistro, let the kids run amuck in the supervised playroom and do it all again anytime we want!

It’s one of those situations where you remember exactly where you were when the announcement was made. It’s been talked about for what seems like forever!

When I received this awesome yellow handbook in the mail, it somehow all became very real…Winnipeg is really starting to rival some of the other major cities in this country! And OMG, we’re getting an IKEA!

IKEA sure knows how make an entrance, for the next few days, an IKEA Vending Machine will show up at different locations in the city. If you attend, you will get an Allen key to unlock it and you might win an IKEA gift card or maybe a delicious treat! How awesome and innovative is that?! To find out where it will be next, be sure to check out IKEA Canada’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

The doors of IKEA Winnipeg will open at 12:01am on Wednesday November 28, 2012. I have a feeling the line-ups will surpass any Black Friday or Boxing Day events we’ve ever seen! The first 1,000 people in line before 7:30am will receive a special gift and a chance to win a $5,000 IKEA Gift Card! I’m thinking my baby boy doesn’t sleep anyway so why not join the masses haha, who’s with me?

Oh, and for those of you who are a little apprehensive about opening day crowds, don’t worry, their opening week offers run through to December 2nd and will be posted on their website IKEA Winnipeg.

To make this event even more exhilarating, I received a personal invitation to the Private Viewing Party on Monday Nov 26th! The party is a full fledged media event – I’ll be live tweeting all night, so be sure to follow me on Twitter that evening. I plan on getting IKEA-wasted so I will do my best to blog about the entire experience as soon as humanly possible afterwards!

Happy shopping Peg City! Show ’em how we roll!

How do you feel about IKEA finally opening a store in Winnipeg? What will be your first purchase at IKEA Winnipeg?

  1. We plan on buying a couch there and a few lamps. I am sure once we get in there the cart will be filled though!
