Wow, it has been a busy year so far! From going back to work early after maternity leave, to having a crazy toddler running around the house, to my daughters heading into junior high and high school this week, to this awesome blogging adventure that I am on; it seems as if time is just flying by and before you know it we’ll be Christmas caroling!
I need time to slow down just a tad or maybe even stand still for a few moments! I was just thinking about how nice it would be if my fiance and I could get away for a weekend to truly have some downtime and chill. For many great reasons, the city that keeps popping into my head is Chicago!
Three years ago we did an amazing family road trip where we drove from Winnipeg to Toronto to Chicago to Minneapolis and then back to Winnipeg! Our favorite leg of the trip was Chicago but it was only for two nights. We didn’t even book our hotel until our last night in Toronto but did we ever luck out! Out of all of the Chicago hotels we looked at, we ended up getting a ridiculously awesome rate at the Palmer House Hilton hotel on a last minute deal. The Palmer House is a luxury hotel and legendary too! It was gorgeous – we were literally in the midst of everything we wanted to see in such a short period of time.
We were within walking distance of great shopping, restaurants, Millennium Park, and we just happened to be there when Obama was in town, we saw his motorcade! I’m not the only one who loves the Windy City, my blogging buddy Kerrie also had a great experience in Chicago with her young children.
I just remember walking along the various streets, stopping to have a snack and a glass of wine, enjoying the gorgeous views and of course the fun we had at Willis Tower on the Skydeck!
Such a gorgeous city and so much that we didn’t get to enjoy, so I wanna go back, like next weekend! Another great blogging buddy of mine, Julie, enjoyed her solo trip to Chicago, maybe that’s an idea too!
Now to find the money, time and a babysitter – any takers?
Have you ever been to Chicago? Share your experience!
Would be nice to take a trip to Chicago on day, I have heard and read good things about travelling there.
Chicago is on my bucket list.
I have never been to Chicago but it definitely looks fun! Your family couldn’t be any cuter by the way! Seriously, you are all adorable! 🙂
We’ve never been to Chicago. Years back we drove from Victoria to Ontario and on the way back we drove back through the states and we did see signs to Chicago, but that is the closest we got lol
As I live just outside the city, it may seem strange that my daughters and I or my husband and I will take a mini vacation and go stay in Chicago. We love going to the museums, the Art Institute is one of our favorite and our favorite hotel is the Peninsula Hotel, though we have stayed at many of the other very nice hotels there too. My favorite neighborhood to walk through is Andersonville. The shops are great, and the restaurants are wonderful too.
Oh wow! What makes the Peninsula Hotel your favorite? Now I’m definitely going to have to research Andersonville too! So much to do, so little time eh?
I would really love to go back to Chicago again, but this time with my whole family and in the summer! When I went, it was VERY cold. But the city is just gorgeous and I hear that the beaches and a river boat cruise are *musts*! (That Palmer House hotel looks amazing!)
hehe I bet that “cold” doesn’t beat Winterpeg! Yea, there’s just so much I want to explore in Chicago, I just hope I can get back there sooner rather than later!
