Ahhh Netflix, my trusted companion…comes with me everywhere I go whether on my phone or my laptop and is even there for me when I get home from a long day at work. Netflix is a part of my family!
Recently, I became a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam, a bunch of wild and crazy Netflix enthusiasts who enjoy the service and love to share their Netflix experiences. Let me tell you, I am in GREAT company!
You can imagine how ecstatic I was to receive an invitation to hangout for a few hours at the Netflix headquarters in San Jose, California where I just so happened to be attending #BlogHer14, a massive North American blogging conference.
When I arrived at the Netflix headquarters, I was in awe of the scenery. The buildings were like nothing I’d ever seen. That rusty orange-y type colour was definitely an eye catcher. I was greeted by the amazing Canadian Netflix team who were onsite to greet their #StreamTeam members, as most of us arrived in San Jose that day. I actually came straight from the airport after taking selfies with The Bloggess, but that’s another story! Once all of the #StreamTeam members had arrived it was time to take a tour of the facilities. Modern decor, fun yet functional workspaces, it was literally an employee’s dream come true! The multiple boardrooms named with famous TV/movie themes, and of course all of the life size posters in the hallways and stairwells shows the effort on Netflix to immerse their employees in company culture.
Before we all headed to the main presentation, the generous folks at Netflix thought they should probably feed us. Check out this menu and spread!
Of course, you all know I just had to give a lil video shoutout to a few of the Canadian #StreamTeam crew:  Christine from WhineAndCheese.ca, Tiffany from MyDirt.ca, Julie from 3chickensandaboat.com, and my fabulous #BlogHer14 roomie Amy from MilkandCoco.ca – Awesome ladies!
After stuffing our faces with all of the yummy goodness the folks at Netflix provided, it was time to head to the main presentation to learn more about Netflix and the people who make the tv/movie magic happen.
What did we learn? Well, we heard about the Netflix commitment to consistency, their focus on tweens and the many innovative ways that content licenses are sold. We learned about how they are focused on getting us the right content at the right time.Todd Yelland told us all about product development as it relates to various devices. We were advised that it’s about every unique Netflix member and personalization. One question we all had: “Will we ever be able to remove items from viewing history?”, you’ll all be happy to know that the answer was yes, it is coming! Thank goodness!
Overall, the presentation gave me so much insight to Netflix that I fell even more in love with the program.
And then it happened. She walked in the room:
Piper spoke about her entire experience and helped us connect with how the book came to be as well as how it translated to the TV series. I’m still so in awe of her, and, well I’m not sure if you can tell how in awe by the photos I took when I met her in person…
As you can see it was an amazing adventure that one time at Netflix headquarters, makes me wonder if they’ll ever invite me again? haha
The least I can do is continue to share the fabulousness of the #StreamTeam, so stay tuned folks 🙂
SO MUCH FUN!!! A tiny bit jealous! I love me some nextflix, can’t wait for season 3 of OITNB, but for now I’m hooked on Suits!
We are working our way through Dexter and I am waiting for a girls day to do OITNB marathon for season two
It looks like you had an amazing time. I love the photos with Piper (and I’m super jealous). I’m not sure where I would be without Netflix. It saves my sanity with my kid 🙂
OMG !!! So cool! You got to a) go to Netflix HQ and b) met (and kissed!) PIPER!! That is the coolest event ever!

Looks like you had an incredible time and experience! How neat that you were able to hangout at their headquarters…in such a beautiful place like California! It has been so fun following along with you while you’ve been a part of the #StreamTeam 🙂
