What have you been working on?
Hey there beautiful people, long time no post. So much to say but haven’t been taking the time to write it down. It’s a goal I’m working towards…one post at a time…
Anyhoo, this blog post is inspired by a daily WordPress prompt that got me thinking about the things I’ve been working on lately. I figured why not share what I’ve been up to here on the blog (for those of you who don’t use Instagram). Sometimes we don’t stop to reflect on the small changes we’re making in our lives. So today, I’m giving myself a moment to appreciate the little things I’ve been doing for my health, well-being, and peace of mind. Maybe you’ll relate to a few, or even feel inspired to start your own journey of small but powerful shifts in your life.
1. Making Time to Move My Body
Life gets busy, but one thing I’ve committed to is walking every day, no matter what. It’s my time to breathe, clear my head, and just be with my thoughts for a minimum of 30 minutes. I usually head out in the morning when things are still quiet.
Walking not only helps me stay physically active, but it’s my way of being intentional about my mindset before I get into the day. Plus, it’s good for your heart, your mood, and your stress levels! If you’re looking for a simple way to feel better, walking is a great place to start.
According to the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP), adults should aim for 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week, and daily walking is an excellent way to reach that goal. It improves cardiovascular health, reduces stress, and boosts mental clarity.
2. Intermittent Fasting (But Not Just Because It’s Trendy)
So, I’ve been doing intermittent fasting, but hear me out—it’s not about trying to follow the latest fad. For me, it’s about finding a rhythm that works for my body. And it’s been happening in natural way which is why I think it’s been working. I stop eating after 8 PM and don’t have anything until after my morning walk, usually around 9/9:30 AM.
It’s not for everyone, but I’ve noticed that it helps me feel more in control of my eating habits and gives me the energy I need to get through the day. It’s about listening to my body and doing what feels good. Plus, there’s some solid science behind it.
3. Less News, More Peace
The news can be a lot. Let’s be real, the world can feel heavy sometimes, and constantly staying plugged in doesn’t do much for my peace of mind. So, I’ve cut back on my news intake. I still stay informed, but I don’t let the 24/7 cycle overwhelm me. And guess what? I feel lighter. Studies show that limiting news consumption can reduce anxiety, which I totally agree with from personal experience. Protecting your mental space is just as important as anything else.
4. Setting Boundaries with Social Media
Now, this one’s tricky because social media is literally a part of my job as a content creator, but I’ve been working on finding balance. I’ve started to set firmer boundaries about how much time I spend scrolling and being online. I’ve been consuming more than I’ve been creating and that’s an issue for me. It’s not perfect, but even small steps like scheduling my posts or taking time offline multiple times a day have helped me feel more present and in control. It’s about finding that sweet spot between work and rest, and I’m definitely still figuring it out. Got any tips that have been working for you?
5. Nurturing Friendships and Learning to Ask for Help
Confession: I’m not great at asking for help. I tend to try and do it all, but I’m working on getting better at that. Trust is so important to me. I know I don’t have to carry everything on my own, but I still have so much work to do in this area. I’ve realized that leaning on others doesn’t make me a ‘needy’ human —it just makes me human. Whether it’s nurturing my current friendships or opening up space for new ones, I’ve also been trying to build stronger connections.
As I look around, I realize my friendship group is quite small…People who I can share any and everything with? People I can call up and just go for an impromptu coffee? Girls night? i feel like I don’t really have that, and that makes me sad sometimes, but I also know it’s a result of this particular season of life too.
6. Redefining Self-Care
For me, self-care isn’t about the occasional spa day (though I wouldn’t say no to one). It’s about making sure I’m taking time to show up for myself every day. It’s as simple as walking, spending time with family, or unplugging from social media when I need to. Self-care is about recharging so that I can be the best version of myself for me and the people I love.
These little habits are making a big difference in how I feel each day, physically, mentally, and emotionally. It’s all about progress, not perfection, right? So, what about you?
