3 Reasons Why I #LoveMyButterChicken from Subway Canada

A few weeks ago Subway Canada announced a delicious and savoury new option at their locations, the Butter Chicken sandwich!

How did I find out about it?

Well, they sent me this as a hint:

Yep, that’s right, they sent me a snazzy tin called a Masala Dabba of all of the spices one would use to make Butter Chicken!

  • Cardamom – used in both sweet and savoury dishes, it has woody notes, a citrusy undertone and a floral yet somewhat spicy scent.
  • Coriander – it’s the dried seed of cilantro (I had no idea)! It has a warm taste with hints of lemon, orange and sage. It’s often used to enhance flavouring.
  • Cinnamon – a delicate yet strong flavour, it’s a great complement to other spices.
  • Ginger – a sharp yet subtle flavour with a tangy freshness and slightly sweet/pungent aroma. It is also a great complement to sweet or savoury dishes.
  • Red Chili Pepper – a pungent hot powder with a little bite! It adds the piquancy and flavour to many dishes.

Subway Canada is using all of these spices to create the fragrant and tasty sauce for their own Butter Chicken sandwich. It’s also free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives as well!

Have you had the chance to try one yet?

Here are my 3 reasons why you need to if you haven’t yet!

  1. It’s nice to go outside of your comfort zone of typical sandwiches. Walk on the wild side!
  2. If you already love this popular Indian dish, it’s so convenient to eat it sandwich style.
  3. The flavours are authentic and it makes for a great sandwich experience!

As quickly as possible – Italian herb and cheese 6″ bun, chicken on the bottom – green and hearty – cucumbers/lettuce/pickles/jalapenos and then a dollop of ranch dressing. Salt & Pepper and then silence. YUM

  3. I would have it on 9 grain honey oat bread, with onions, pickle, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese of course and sub sauce.

Always great sandwiches to be had at @Subway

  11. I would put my Butter Chicken on a wholewheat bun and would top it with green peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, and onions.

  12. The herb and cheddar bread, white cheese and just peppers. I don’t want to take away too much from the butter chicken.

  13. Michelle Policelli

Italian herb and cheese bread, a mix of lettuce/spinach, lots of cheese, onions, tomatoes, olives and mayo!

  14. My butter chicken sandwich would be made on flatbread with lettuce, spinach, green pepper, onion and tomato.

  15. This is going to be my new favourite. I would have it on whole wheat with spinach and tomato.

  16. I would like to try it as they offer it. I never like to “construct my own” because I think they are better the way they were invented.

  17. Amy Heffernan

Whole wheat, lettuce, tomato, onion, light mayo and a lil honey mustard with pepper! Thanks! YUM!

  18. I would pick Italian herbs and cheese, orange cheese, lettuce, tomato, green pepper, green olive, pickle, mayo

  19. Shelley Nelson

I love butter chicken so this is right up my alley. I would have lettuce and tomato on it -maybe some red onion and peppers. I do not want to overload it with things since I love the taste of butter chicken all on its own.

  20. I would have the butter chicken on Italian Herbs & Cheese bread, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onion and jalapeno peppers

  21. I would go with Italian bread with green peppers, onions and lettuce. No sauces for me, just a bit of salt and pepper.

  22. Parmesan Oregano bread, bacon, tomato slices and no sauces (as long as a butter chicken sauce is there ) would make the perfect sandwich

  23. I really keep things simple, so my butter chicken sub from Subway would be on white bread and feature mayo, cucumber, & lettuce. I’d probably throw some cheese on there, too!

  24. Parmesan Oregano Bread, Monterey cheese, green peppers, lettuce, black olives, salt & pepper…and butter chicken sauce! I’ve yet to try, but that would be my masterpiece! 🙂

  25. I wouldn’t want to mess around with butter chicken sandwich to much as I love butter chicken so I would pick the parmesan bread with lettuce and onions and a few hoot peppers 🙂

  26. Jaelyn St. Croix

9 grain wheat with the bread hollowed out with white cheddar (toast it.. always!), LOTS of spinach, lettuce and cucumbers with just a bit of subsauce. YUM!

  27. Paula Ritchie

My butter chicken sandwich would be made with Italian bread, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, honey mustard sauce and butter chicken

  28. Paula Ritchie

My butter chicken sandwich would be made with Italian bread, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, honey mustard sauce and butter chicken of course!

  29. I would put it on Flatbread with lots of onions, hot peppers and tomatoes for the authentic flavours to be complimented! YUM>

  30. YUMmMmmm…..I would construct my butter chicken with foot long Italian Herbs & Cheese bread, Natural Swiss, Monterey Cheddar, Cucumbers, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Spinach, Avocado, Pickles, Mayonnaise! I’d share with my daughter she loves butter chicken 🙂

  31. I would use whole wheat bread and top the butter chicken with lettuce, cucumbers and onions. No sauce because I would want to taste the flavours of the butter chicken.

  32. I would use a flat bread and along with the butter chicken I would add green pepper, spinach, red onion and maybe some tomatoes. I wouldn’t want to add to many items so I could still taste the butter chicken.

  33. Honey Oat bread, lettuce, tomatoes, lots of onions, some ranch sauce and topped off with Monterey Jack, white cheddar and shredded cheeses. Love the cheeses!

  34. I think I would try it with s flatbread. I would just leave it plain, no toppings so I could taste the butter chicken.

  35. I’d go for the whole wheat bun, some cheddar cheese, and salt and pepper. I want the butter chicken to be the star!
