Mmmm pizza! Who doesn’t love a good pie (as they say)?

How about when you make it yourself, YOUR way?

We have a weekly family tradition at our house where we make our very own pizzas, I buy flatbread or other pre-made stonebaked pizza shells and of course tons of fresh veggies. We throw on some music, gather in the kitchen and create pizza magic in our own unique ways!

Za Pizza Bistro let’s you do that too, except their awesome staff take care of the creation, and you just tell them what you’d like!

This fabulous franchise opened their first location in Winnipeg in May 2015 on St Mary’s Rd, since then they have opened up at City Place and most recently on Ellice (March 16, 2017).

The Za Pizza Bistro tagline is Custom. Fast. Fired; and they are true to their words! The whole experience is all with the customer in mind.

  • Crust (original, whole wheat or gluten-free – made fresh in house)
  • Sauces (7 different kinds)
  • Cheeses (7 different types, including vegan)
  • Veggies (over 25 options!)

Big difference between ordering a pizza over the phone, you get to see each and every option right in front of you, while it’s being crafted.


Your pizza is cooked in a special high heat gas fired oven in under 5 minutes!

I was at the media preview for the newest location on Ellice and let me tell ya, it’s gorgeous!

It has a very open concept, with a trendy design. There are tv’s showing music videos or maybe even the latest Jets game.

They even feature a Coco-Cola freestyle machine offering customers a choice of over 130 flavours!!! I don’t ever want to hear my kids say “there’s nothing to drink” when we come here, haha!

Getting back to the customer experience, they truly have it all with fresh great tasting pizza at the best price. I am still savouring my creation – Chicken Spinach Veggies on Whole Wheat Crust with Spicy Red Sauce:

Don’t worry there’s more than just the ‘za! There are salads, wine and beer, and other tantalizing options like their dessert pizzas, which I honestly cannot describe without drooling!

Although the St Mary’s Rd location is close to home, it’s truly a fast casual experience because it has a smaller footprint than Ellice. I can see myself bringing the whole family to the Ellice location, or having a girls night out, or even a date night with other couples. It really caters to everyone.

Have no fear Winnipeg! Other locations are coming soon. Their 4th location will be on North Main and the 5th location will be where I grew up, in Transcona.

  1. My signature pizza begins with bread dough and donair sauce, peppers,onions,mushrooms and cheddar cheese.

    Original crust, extra cheese mozerella and cheddar, Extra pepperoni, ground beef, onions, muchrooms, bacon and tomatoes.

  4. I’m obsessed with Za! My favorite combo is whole wheat crust with pesto sauce, vegan Daiya cheese, and lots of veggies (especially artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, roasted garlic, and spinach!).

  6. My daughter said it’s fabulous there! My dream pizza is simple…thin crust, whole wheat’s to healthy for me lol, so nay to that, lotsa mozza, and simply tons of beef and mushrooms. Fresh mushrooms! My Mom loved her thin crust beef and mushroom and got me hooked

  7. Whole wheat crust, regular sauce, feta cheese, pepperoni, spinach, olives, roasted garlic, roasted red peppers, and maybe some pineapple!

    My favourite creation so far is one with a whole wheat crust, half white cream sauce/half pesto, mozzarella, feta, goat cheese, chicken, bacon, mushrooms, red onions and minced garlic. I then add cilantro once it comes out of the oven! I’m getting hungry thinking about it. 🙂

  9. I usually get regular crust, spicy tomato sauce, daiya dairy-free cheese or a little bit of goat cheese, chicken, bacon, artichokes, sun dried tomatoes and jalapeños.

    My signature pizza! Regular crust, BBQ sauce, mozzarella and cheddar cheese, chicken, bacon and mushrooms. And always pair it with a freestyle drink!

    Great pizza at zah! I go to the St. Mary’s location and I try to switch it up Everytime. A suggestion is to even mix the sauces! My favorite is original crust with spicy red sauce, feta and cheddar, all meats and spinach!

  13. Best pizza hands down. We woukd travel accross the city for lunch when the St.Mary’s location was the only one. Looking forward to the opening of the North Main st. location’s opening!!

  14. Regular crust, mozzarella, chicken, lots and lota of bacon, pineapple, some onion, bbq sauce mixed with a bit of creamy white sauce. Mmm delicious

  15. Multigrain crust, white sauce and pesto mixed, feta,mozzarella, spicy sausage, chicken, mushroom, black olives and basil. YUM

  20. I love to start with a not-too-thick, not-too-thin yeast dough crust that is just a little chewy, topped with a good layer of full-bodied and herbed tomato sauce. Layers of fresh veggies – Roma tomato, green pepper, onion and mushrooms nestle under a generous covering of a blend of mozza-cheddar cheese. Pizza perfection!

  21. I love a soft crust, mozzarella cheese, a tomato-based sauce, ham and pineapple. And then I like to sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top.

  26. My fave pizza is gluten free crust, basil pesto sauce, feta and goat cheese, chicken, bacon and a ton of veggies (onions, peppers, artichokes, spinach, tomato) with garlic and basil on top. So delicious!
