The Makings of a Romantic Winter Getaway in Manitoba

Celebrating Togetherness

My husband and I celebrated 10 years of togetherness on Nov 22/18. What does that mean exactly? Well, we started dating on that date 10 years ago and have been together ever since. I like milestones, don’t you?

For this particular milestone, we knew we wanted to do something special, away from home, but not too far, as we could only get away for the weekend without requesting additional time off of work.

We started to research romantic getaways within 100 to 200km away that offered serenity, privacy, comfort and an abundance of nature.

Pinewood Lodge on Dorothy Lake near Seven Sisters Falls, Manitoba turned out to be the perfect spot!

GETTING THERE

Firstly, can I tell you how much we love the great cell service from TELUS so we could access our Google maps? It made the drive so much easier!

Because we left after work, we knew that it would be dark for a large portion of our drive there.  There wasn’t much to see but I didn’t expect pitch black areas that’s for sure!

ARRIVAL

We pulled up around 6pm and the lodge looked so beautiful all lit up at night!

We quickly checked in with owner, James, and picked up the keys to our lakefront chalet. As we left the lodge I just had to grab a pic of the salt water pool area.

After checking out each room in our new home for the weekend, we settled in to grab a bite to eat.

It was then that we decided to crack open our special bottle of Sandhill wine that we specifically purchased on our summer vacation in Kelowna, BC for this anniversary. Wine never tasted so good!

Friday was a long day so we went straight to our king sized bed after eating dinner, and passed out!

DAY ONE

The next morning, it was the views all around us that captured our attention. The loft style of the chalet and the large windows facing the lake provided us with an amazing setting for our breakfast. Yes, I had hard-boiled eggs (it’s my thing)!

The full kitchen had everything we needed to feel like home away from home. Coffeemaker, kettle, toaster, microwave, pots, pans and utensils etc were available to us.

On the kitchen table there were treats and a handwritten note welcoming us as well as a binder listing amenities, things to do and testimonials.

After browsing the binder, we chose to go out on a bit of a nature walk.

[su_quote]Did You Know?  The Trans Canada trail is literally right beside the main building of Pinewood Lodge? It is part of the North Whiteshell portion of the trail.[/su_quote]

While we were out on our trek, I took a ton of great pics and hyperlapse video. Thanks to great service from my partnership with TELUS, I was actually able to share my pics in real-time on my Instagram Stories, but here they are again just in case you missed them!

We did about 6 km total and decided it was time to have lunch and chill out for a bit. Even though the sun wasn’t shining, the serenity and beauty of being right on the lake was breathtaking.

After lunch, a quick nap and a little bit of afternoon reading, we decided to check out the fitness facilities at the lodge.

Unfortunately, Pinewood Lodge is phasing out the fitness accessibility as it wasn’t getting used on a frequent basis, and tough to maintain, but we made the most of it!

DINNER TIME

As an add-on to our romantic getaway, we chose the dinner package inclusive of wine and dessert. Boy oh boy, was it ever worth it!

We finished off our second night with a very competitive game of Scrabble (which I won I might add)!

And then of course, we just HAD to use the jacuzzi hot tub, complete with bubbles!

DAY TWO

Just like that our whirlwind weekend together had come to an end, it was time to head back home. But before leaving we took our time to have another quiet breakfast together, and write our own testimonial for the wonderful stay we had at Pinewood Lodge.

Honestly, it was such a great stay, and I would LOVE to see what it’s like in the summer time! Manitoba is so beautiful and with TELUS having made significant improvements to its rural network, Manitobans have more access to fast reliable coverage across the province, so there’s no reason not to explore it!
