#ThrowbackThursday – Blackorama 1994

It was 1994. Black-O-Rama Reggae Festival. It was of the most anticipated annual events in Winnipeg showcasing local and international talent. This would have been my 7th year of performing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I had my first public singing performance at Black-O-Rama when I was just 12 years old in 1987, singing I Wanna Dance with Somebody by Whitney Houston. I am so thankful to my dad, Mr Reggae himself, for immersing us in music from a young age. I loved being on stage – still do! 😍
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Black-O-Rama was one of those festivals where you felt safe, where you really felt community coming together. Everyone there was there for one purpose: to enjoy the music. I grew up in that community and I am so grateful that I did. Many of the bands and musicians truly loved the music they were playing and it showed in the quality and the vibe of the massive crowds that attended. Many people never wanted that weekend to end and couldn’t wait for the announcement of the following years dates and location. My fave location was when it was at Vimy Ridge.I miss those days. But am I ever glad I was lucky enough to experience them.

Do you have a favourite Black-o-rama memory?
