Is your grocery cart healthier these days?
A couple of months ago I shared the Guiding Stars program at Loblaw with all of you. To recap, it’s a program that rates the foods you buy using a scientific algorithm. The higher the stars, the healthier and more nutritious those food items are!
Since I started using the program, I’ve been on a mission to ensure that I’m buying foods for my family with at least 2 stars or more. Recently, I’ve been experiencing some health challenges and part of plan to get better is to eat better! The Guiding Stars program is PERFECT for that!
Not only am I invested in the program, so is my family:
As we went up and down the aisles, I told my son to look for the stars on the products that we need. He loved helping me out, maybe a little too much, he expected that we pick up everything with stars regardless if we needed it or not!
The Guiding Stars program is geared to ensure that you are headed towards more nutritious choices not to tell you what to buy. It’s been a challenge for us to find 3 star items previously, but since I have been focused on changing my diet it was amazing to see how many items I picked up with 3 stars over the past month.
As a PC Plus member, it’s so easy to gain points for the healthy food we’ve been purchasing. I always make sure to load all of the offers when I enter the store so that we earn our points at the checkout. We have been able to reduce our grocery bill by $20 the last time we went shopping thanks to the points! If you have a PC Mastercard, you can earn even more points!
Awesome right?![fvplayer src=”https://pegcitylovely.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/GuidingStars-Post-Shop-opt.mp4″ width=”640″ height=”364″]
At the end of May, I was at Level 2 of the program, so I figured that within 6 to 8 weeks of healthier choices, I should at least be up a level by now, right!? Well, unfortunately I’m not after this shop, I’m still at Level 2!
How is that possible? Well, my 3 star items have increased but a lot of items I have been buying still don’t have a rating. As a matter of fact here’s the breakdown of my shops from January to July:
