5 Ways with Leftover Bread

I am really enjoying my food waste prevention journey with Love Food Hate Waste Canada! I recently posted 5 ways to use leftover rice, and now I’m on to the next item that can be a challenge in our household. Any guesses? Yep, bread!

When that bag of bread gets stale or to the last few end pieces, what do you do with it? Well, I challenged myself to get creative and use my imagination to make sure that those pieces of bread aren’t wasted unnecessarily. Just another small change I can make to be a food waste champion.

#DidYouKnow Almost 2.2 million tonnes of edible food is wasted each year in Canada, costing an excess of $17 billion?

That is a ridiculous amount of money, wouldn’t you agree?

With everyone in our family working and learning from home, we aren’t necessarily in our routine of making sandwiches every day, we are cooking for brekkie/lunches etc and therefore the bread doesn’t get as used as quickly as it could.

In addition to freezing stale bread, I made these yummy French toast crusts AND I also made my own breadcrumbs (I know, I know, seems so simple right?), croutons for salad, a cinnacrust dessert and even some savoury bread crust snacks!

It’s the little things that go a long way folks! Click here for more ideas to use leftover bread!

How will you commit to preventing and reducing food waste in your home?
